About "MelMel"

My business was started in March 2007 when I lost my job as an administrative assistant.  I decided to become a business owner and have been going strong since! Animals have always been a big part of my life, starting with a kitten named Bootsie back when I was about 2 years old!  My childhood was comprised of dogs following me home and kittens found wandering the streets.  As a young adult I enjoyed working around horses, in particular were Arabians, Morgans, and Tennessee Walkers.  In the late 1970s I became involved with Collie dogs, raising and showing both Rough and Smooth Coated collies in conformation as well as in the obedience ring.  Always having loved Lassie from the 1940's films and later with 1950s to 1970s television series, collies were right up my alley!

Nowadays I find myself with an apartment full of cats as I became a volunteer and foster mom for the group "Kitten Rescue of Los Angeles" in 2005.  Many of my cats originated as fosters that became "foster fails" meaning they became my family!  I've also helped with trapping, neutering, and release of kitties in the past, as well as socializing feral kittens for later adoption and placement.  Due to my being a foster I've gained lots of experience in administering medications, injections, and SubQ fluids as my group often takes in kitties that need medical attention while they are being fostered.  This experience has helped tremendously in my being able to help my petsit clients with similar needs.

I do specialize in cats as currently I have an abundance of in-hand experience with cats. However, I enjoy sitting for all kinds of pets, including but not limited to:  dogs, birds, fish, small reptiles, rabbits, some exotics such as permitted turtles/tortoises, sugar gliders, hedgehogs, ferrets, etc.  I've even cared for a friend's horses, goats, and couple cows and chickens before!  Most of my clients, however are indeed kitties!

Oh!  My name is actually Melanie - however, a dear friend shortened my name to Mel, then started referring to me as MelMel--and it stuck!  I am known as Auntie MelMel to my pet friends! :)
